Children and Youth Ministries
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” (I John 3:1, NIV)
At Christ Church, we foster a warm and caring environment for our youngest parishioners, helping children to grow in their love of God and understanding of Christ’s teachings. Children are encouraged to explore and learn the word of God through study, song and activity. Additionally, children are taught the importance of outreach to the wider community, using their God-given talents to help those in their community and the world beyond. Through individual class-time and group gatherings, we want children to feel they are important members of the Christ Church family and precious children of God.
Nursery
Infants and children are welcome to join our nursery on Sunday mornings during the 10:00 am service. We have a permanent aide in the nursery to take care of the little ones at Christ Church. The nursery is open at 9:45 am to allow parents and teachers the opportunity to participate in the service and classes. Children may stay in the nursery for the entire service or any portion depending on your wishes and your child’s ability to participate. Parents are welcome to leave the children with the nursery aide or stay for as long as is needed.
Children’s Chapel
All children are invited to attend Children’s Chapel held in the Parish Hall from 9:30 – 10:00 am. Intended as a fun time that builds both learning and a sense of church community, children meet as a group and focus on fun music, stories and movement activities. Father Harrison joins the group at 9:45 am, allowing kids their own special time with the rector in a casual environment as they review the day’s lessons. Coffee is provided for parents who wish to stay and join the fun.
Sunday School
Open to children from preschool age through the fifth grade, Sunday School classes begin at 10:00 am. Lessons are curriculum-based and following the scriptures read each Sunday. Classrooms can be found on the lower level in the parish hall building. Children join the congregation in the sanctuary during the Passing of the Peace and are able to participate in the remainder of the service with their families.
Journey to Adulthood
Our program of spiritual formation for young people is open to individuals ages 11 – 16. This program has two phases: Rite 13 for ages 11 – 14 and J2A (Journey to Adulthood) for those 14 – 16. Classes are held on Sunday mornings with children attending the 10:00 am church and leaving to attend classes following Holy Communion. Classes are held in the lower level of the parish hall.
