Rector Search
Parish Search Committee
A Time of Transition and Discernment
Christ Episcopal Church began its Search Process in June of 2008. Overseen by the Rev’d Canon Erik Larson, Canon for Transition Ministry in the Diocese of Connecticut, the process has included the distribution of a parish-wide survey to gather data about ourselves, our preferences, our patterns of attendance, stewardship, outreach, worship and aspirations and goals for the future. This aspect of the process was continued with a series of focus groups,
where various segments of the parish were gathered together to discuss the factors that will influence the search process. Eventually the Search Committee will narrow the list of candidates to “finalists” to be presented to the Wardens and Vestry. The vestry, with the Bishop’s approval, will make the final selection of who will be the next Rector of Christ Episcopal Church. The Search Committee, a sub-committee of the Vestry, includes: Diane Barker, Gene Bishop, Jennifer Hamilton, Carol Iovanna, David Jones, chair, Evelyn Linskey, Richard Marvin, Thomas McQuigan, vice chair, Susan Shackford, Diana Stovall and Rhoda Whitman. The Search Committee meets weekly. Our Diocesan Consultant is Jane Inrig, a veteran consultant of numerous parish searches in the diocese.
Our PARISH PROFILE will be posted to the website when completed.
Goals for Future Vision and Ministry
Prepared by the Christ Church Search Committee
Stewardship:
To enlighten us through preaching and teaching so we may experience the transformation from being givers responding to budget needs into being givers responding joyously to God’s gifts to us.
Clergy expectation: to provide strong leadership and vision to incorporate Christian stewardship in the “year round life of the church”.
Christian Education:
To inspire and engage all ages in Christian education, enriching and strengthening the understanding of our Episcopal heritage (and traditions).
Clergy expectation: to be grounded in Episcopal traditions and expose us to the array of available resources to meet the educational needs of the congregation.
Outreach/Inreach:
To encourage a commitment by all parishioners to be involved in serving the needs of others both here and beyond our community.
Clergy expectation: to join with parish leadership to explore opportunities that support and facilitate growth in our outreach to the world and inreach to our faith community.
Spiritual Life:
To motivate our congregation to celebrate the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed and offer experiences that deepen our spiritual life in Christian fellowship.
Clergy expectation: to be a shepherd who leads us in the discipline of prayer, opening our eyes, ears and hearts to God so we may discern how members of Christ Church can be disciples of Jesus Christ.
